Brisbane Radio (VIB)
is located at Ningi about one hours drive North of Brisbane, Queensland.
Brisbane Radio
was the fourth coastal radio station to be established by the Postmaster
General's Office, opening on 2 September 1912 in Pinkenba about 13km
from Brisbane. A new station was built at Ningi in 1963 and has continued there ever since. In 1995-97 the equipment from Sydney Radio (VIS) was installed at Ningi and the HF Radiotelephone service previously operated from VIS began operating from Ningi until its closure on 28th February 2002. GMDSS services from VIB ceased on 30th June 2002 along with all the other Australian coast radio stations. |
